Client Requirement
BSF performed the reloading (перетарка) and subsequent transportation of an antique swage printing press over 100 years old for a museum. The cargo weighed 1,655 kg, with the route from Novorossiysk to Saint Petersburg. Special attention was required to preserve the wooden crate, eliminate tilting, and ensure careful loading onto a low-bed platform.
BSF Work Process
At the first stage, BSF specialists inspected the cargo inside the container, checked the lashings, the condition of the crate, seals, and labeling, and verified that it had not shifted during transport. All straps, braces, and other lashings were then systematically loosened and removed without sudden release to avoid any risk of shifting or damage to the cargo.
To lift the crate, riggers used textile slings attached to eyebolts, or — in the absence of eyebolts — passed the slings under the base using a spreader bar without pinching the corners. The crane then performed a test lift of 1–2 cm to check even tension, absence of tilting, and the integrity of the packaging. Only after a successful check was the crate lifted above the container floor level and carefully moved out without touching the door frame or corners.
If temporary storage was required, the crate was placed on wooden dunnage leveled for stability. If the waiting period was prolonged, the cargo was additionally covered with a tarp to protect against dust and precipitation. A low-bed platform with locked brakes, wheel chocks, and a clean, dry surface was then positioned at the work site.
In the final stage, the crate was lifted from the dunnage, moved to the truck, and smoothly lowered onto the platform. After positioning, the cargo was secured with straps through the lashing rings in the truck bed — never to the sides. Final steps included checking all securing points, post-loading photo documentation, and signing the reloading report with a note confirming cargo integrity.
Result
The antique press was reloaded without damage and prepared for onward transport along the Novorossiysk — Saint Petersburg route. BSF ensured careful handling of this historically valuable cargo, precise adherence to procedures, and full control at every stage of the operation.
