Stages of sea transportation
Special features and requirements of Russian legislation
The transportation of metal is regulated by the legislation of the Russian Federation and customs rules, with specific requirements applying to each type of product. For example, pipes fall under the provisions of TR CU 032/2013 if they are classified as equipment operating under pressure. Steel is cleared under the general export rules for goods in HS code groups 72–73. Ingots and ore may be transported without quotas but must have GOST-compliant labeling, while phytosanitary control is required for ore concentrates. Zero duties apply to most of these goods, but to benefit from these exemptions, the origin of the goods must be confirmed with an ST‑1 certificate.
Therefore, before commencing operations, it is essential to thoroughly study all requirements for export clearance on the Russian side and to properly prepare documents in accordance with the rules of the buyer country, so that upon arrival the cargo can be cleared quickly and delivered to the final consignee.

Special features of bulk and container transportation
Large consignments of metal, such as ore, ingots, and rebar, are typically transported by bulk carrier. In such cases, the cargo is either placed on the open deck under protective tarps to shield it from precipitation, or in holds with a drainage system to prevent moisture accumulation.
Container transportation is more suitable for coils, pipes, and steel cord. Up to 25 tons of cargo can be loaded into a single container.
